Got some of the sandwich pieces cut out for the cosmo dragoon today and glued them together. Should have them all sanded flush tomorrow.

Re: Captain Harlock
Did more on this last night. As much as I love this plastic for its toughness and uniformity, I HATE how much it pits when you cut it. I easily have a whole days worth of sanding and filling to do on this thing. Other than that Im pleased with the progress so far. Got most of the edges evened out that didnt require the use of filler. I'll take care of the rest of them later today.

Re: Captain Harlock
Any reason you didn't just use MDF?

Re: Captain Harlock
Because the J handle of the frame is thin and I didnt feel like doing alot of sanding or going and buying thinner MDF. I had the ABF on hand.

Got alot of work done on this today, though it doesnt look like much. Made the front cocking lever hinge and the rear cocking lever, along with the top fin thing.

Re: Captain Harlock
Busted my ass today for 6 hours straight on the detail panels on the cocking lever and the trigger guard. Thank god they're done with now. Going to go for a supply run here in a bit and hopefully get the cylinder done as well yet tonight.

These slots are 1/32" wide. Total pain in the ass.

Re: Captain Harlock
I'm really curious as to what you are making your buckles out of.
And to me, personally the skull and cross bones seem a bit small. But then again, I am used to seeing the buckle my husband made for his Harlock and his buckle looks slightly different than yours.

Re: Captain Harlock
Depending on what are you're looking at his buckles change DRASTICALLY. For example the buckles with the large skull and one bone across the bottom flat are seem mostly in Arcadia of my youth. These are based on the Original series opening sequence. I'll ba making a ton more of these for future Harlock costumes as the design changes so much.squidglue wrote:I'm really curious as to what you are making your buckles out of.

As for what they are made out of here is a list:
Skull: 0.25" ABS Plastic
Bones: 0.020" ABS Plastic
Buckles: Steel belt buckle blanks
Circles: Paperclay

Re: Captain Harlock
This post is going to be picture heavy but I haven't posted much of my progress here as of late and this is the result.
lets start off with the buckles, which have now received a light weathering to add some character.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Next up are the rough sculpted chamber covers which will be anded and filled tomorrow once the paper clay has cured.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
The cocking lever that goes below the barrel.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
The first barrel out of the mold, cleaned up and given a coat of paint to see how it looks
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
And the second barrel with its future owners name on it

Re: Captain Harlock
Thanks. I owe a ton to my girlfriend for taking care of the soft bits of this costume so I could focus on the props. Also thanks to vernedead for selling me his spare gravity saber. Coming SOON!: Metal shaft gravity saber. (and by soon I mean after I get back from ALA and have some spare money.Mr_Owl wrote:That looks great so far. Cant wait to see it finished.
